Why From Art to Heart?
As we are a nonprofit, our lessons are focused on your child's learning above all else. We keep lessons affordable, flexible, engaging, and personal, we're constantly improving our courses, and trying our best to give you the best experience possible!
Additionally, if you are unable to afford the costs of art lessons, we will provide you with a full bursary that covers all associated costs of lessons, including lesson fees and art supplies, possible through the generous support of the Calgary Youth Foundation, a program of Youth Central.
Art Lesson Information
Beginner Class (5 to 8 years old)
Lessons will be held online with 2-4 students and 1 teacher each. Basic techniques such as drawing with a steady hand, drawing shapes/lines, and perception will be taught. All students will be given the same project to work on (e.g. drawing an apple) to build a certain skill.
Advanced Class (8 to 12 years old)
Lessons will be held online with 2-4 students and 1 teacher each. Students will be given a "theme" for a project (e.g. painted river), and they can choose the specific artwork they produce. The teacher will provide individual support where needed. Depending on student interest, the teacher may also teach a couple of lessons on art history and colour theory.
Ages: The beginner class accepts students aged 5-8, and the advanced class accepts students aged 9-12.
Cost: The cost of each lesson is $10. A one-time payment of $90 is expected before the first lesson to cover the 9 lessons. (9 lessons x $10 = $90).
We sell art supplies for $30 a kit. If you prefer to purchase your own kit, please ensure that the kit includes the the materials in this list (click the underlined text).
We sell phone stands for $20 a stand. These stands are useful for online learning so the teacher can easily see what the student is doing. Purchasing a stand (from us or by yourself) is optional.
If you are unable to afford any of the associated costs, we will offer a full bursary (lessons + supplies + stand are all completely free). A further $30 credit will be provided for the student to purchase art supplies not included in the kit we give them.
Lesson policy is available on the last page of the registration form.
Dates: Classes are on Saturdays, and the first lesson is on July 3. The last lesson is on August 28. The beginner class runs from 3:00pm - 4:00pm, and the advanced class runs from 5:00pm to 6:00pm (all times in MDT).
Registration Deadline: The registration deadline is June 26. However, late registrations are acceptable, but may result in your child starting later due to a lack of proper art supplies.
Length per lesson: Lessons occur once a week for 60 minutes in length.
Experience: No experience is necessary for either the beginner or advanced class.
Location: Lessons are held online. Students can register from any location as long as they have reasonable internet and fluent English (or, for younger children, a parent who is fluent in English).
This sounds too good to be true. Free art lessons? How?
We're a registered nonprofit, so our focus is on you, not profit. We're able to afford this through grants from the Calgary Youth Foundation, and because all of our teachers are volunteers looking to impact their community.
